Lucie Winterson: " use a transparent acrylic medium to which I add pure pigment and water in order to create fluid colour that I work across the canvas in flow marks, puddles and streams. Being involved with fluid colour in this way is the closest I can get to touching the processes of nature. I build up transparent layers in order to create depth and resonance and to give a visual equivalent of memory. These layers, juxtaposed with solid materials and textures, set up a tension of opposites within a dynamic equilibrium, which is a central theme in my work. Drawing on the fact that boundaries both bring together and separate things, my work examines the moment of differentiation between rush and stillness; water and stone; darkness and light."
